Apple will reportedly announce the purchase of Beats this week at a slightly lower price than originally anticipated, reports the New York Post.

The tech titan is expected to announce its acquisition of Beats Electronics this week — at the slightly reduced price of $3 billion, The Post has learned. A report in the Financial Times earlier this month tipping the deal put the price at $3.2 billion.

The NYP says the $3.2 billion number may have been the case before a leaked report that pegged Beats Music at just 111,000 subscribers in March.

“Apple hadn’t even begun its due diligence process when news of the number came out,” one source close to the talks said Tuesday.

Acquisition rumors surfaced on May 8th and were quickly backed up by a video that appears to show Dr. Dre confirming the deal. In the days that followed it was speculated that Dr. Dre and Jimmy lovine would take senior positions at Apple and that Beats would be kept a separate brand. It’s even been said that Apple could unveil the two as executives at WWDC.
