The Facebook-owned platform is currently testing the feature with a small number of iOS users.

WhatsApp is testing a feature that will allow photos to self-destruct, allowing the recipient to view the images only once, without the ability to save them to their device.

As we can see from the images shared by WABetaInfo , once the function is available we will be able to activate the self-destruct function of the photos through the appropriate button.

Specifically, when sending an image within a chat, you can set an optional self-destruct timer . This way the app will delete the image immediately after it has been viewed on the recipient’s device. This feature is very similar to the one found on Snapchat.

However, on Snapchat, users are notified when the recipient takes a screenshot of the photo, while, according to WABetaInfo, no notification will arrive on the popular instant messaging platform. Failure to implement this “warning” renders the function useless. Despite this, WhatsApp may implement the notification before releasing the feature for everyone.

At the moment we don’t know if or when the feature will be made available to everyone.
