WhatsApp has updated its application for iOS by introducing a useful news concerning the previews of photos and GIFs.

WhatsApp made version 2.18.90 of its iOS client available. The latter introduces the ability to preview photos and GIFs through notifications, using the 3D Touch or by swiping on the notification to the left and touching “View”. To take advantage of these changes, the iPhone must run iOS 10 or later.

We tried to try the news in the editorial office, but – even after updating WhatsApp – it does not seem to be available for everyone. According to WABetaInfo, the media preview feature isn’t working for everyone who has updated just yet, but WhatsApp is apparently aware of the issue and is aiming to fix it server-side within the next few days.

Also in version 2.18.90, WhatsApp is introducing a feature that flags suspicious links sent over the chat platform. When a message is received that contains a link, WhatsApp analyzes the URL characters locally in order to detect if the link is suspicious and alerts the user in the chat thread.

So we deduce that the new feature is in the roll-out phase, and will be available to all users (with iPhone running iOS 10/11/12) in the next hours.
