How to choose when there are many options
We sometimes suffer from paradox of choice. Faced with many good options that is the differences between those options, we become confused which way to go. Whenever we imagine ourselves choosing one option, we can’t help but feel the demise of others. So we plod along indecisive.
Factors to consider when you’re buying a smartphone. If you consider these, your choice should be simple. You won’t even care about the models you don’t buy.
1. Screen size
The greatest separating factor among modern smartphones is the screen size. For years Nokia the Finis mobile manufacturer and Apple set the standard for 2.5-3.5-inch iPhone, but that has changed dramatically. Since 2010 Samsung has been pushing the envelope with screen sizes. Their most popular phones have screens measuring 4.8 and 5.5 inches. It’s safe to say that screen size has become a personal choice.
If you watch video and read on your smartphone, you will want to consider a larger-sized phone. If you value portability and like operating your phone with one hand, a smaller size will do best. The cutoff point is four inches, the size of the iPhone 5. Those who prefer a smaller handset will go with a 4-inch screen, 4.3 inches tops.
2. Operating system
Once you’ve determined the screen size, it’s time to consider the operating system. If you’ve chosen the iPhone, well, there’s not much to talk about. Apple does a great job of keeping its operating systems up to date for all phones. Whether you buy the iPhone 4, the 4S, or the 5, you’re still getting iOS 7. That’s a huge point in their favor, and a good reason to go with the iPhone. It will be many, many years before the device is truly outdated.
Android, on the other hand, is notoriously lacking when updating old phones. Many phones released last year have not yet received the 4.4.2 kit kat update — which was actually released last year. Now Android is onto even newer versions, and many current handsets won’t get it. If you want to get the most out of Android, you’ll need to pick a model that already runs 4.4.2 at least.
3. Network technology
There are a few different technology standards for cell phones. Some run 3G on CDMA networks, while others use HSDPA. Yes, they’re insider acronyms, but they do make a difference to the everyday consumer. There is also the issue of 4G LTE, a spreading technology. How is a consumer supposed to choose among these network technologies?
When choosing between network technologies, consider what is strongest in your area. That’s really the only factor that matters. If HSDPA is generally stronger.
4. Price
