Twitter is working on a new in-app “Verification Request” feature, with the company saying it will publicly document what is needed for users to be verified.
After shutting down its public verification program in 2017, Twitter is planning to launch a renewed system with publicly documented guidelines.
Engineer Jane Manchun Wong found evidence of a new ” Request Verification ” option coming to the Twitter app and the company offered further details of her plans to TechCrunch .
Wong, who regularly discovers new social media features before they are announced, has found evidence that the company is working on a way for users to request verification directly in the app . The option is found on the Account Settings page of the app under ” Personal Information “, but is not yet available.
The company confirmed to TechCrunch that Wong’s screenshot ” shows the next option to request verification .” The specific details remain unclear, but the company says it will publicly document the whole process:
This time, the company will publicly document what qualifies a verified user. The hope is that with greater clarity and transparency around the process, people will understand why the company makes the choices it makes.
Twitter previously had internal verification guidelines, but this will be the first time that it will publicly and specifically document these rules.
