Tracker Detect looks for item trackers that are separate from their owner and that are compatible with Apple’s Where’s Network.

Apple has released the “ Tracker Detect ” app on the Google Play Store, designed to allow Android users to locate AirTags that may be nearby.

Tracker Detect looks for item trackers that are separate from their owner and that are compatible with the Find My network, then it will locate AirTags‌ and other enabled devices like Chipolo’s Bluethoot tracker.

Apple says Android users can scan to find an AirTag nearby if they think someone is using an AirTag or other device to track their location. The app is designed to alleviate the fears of experts concerned that ‌AirTag‌s may be maliciously used to track people’s location.

An Apple spokesperson provided a statement to CNET about this new app:

“AirTag offers industry-leading security and privacy features and today we are extending new features to Android devices. Tracker Detect gives Android users the ability to search for an AirTag or object trackers supported by the Where’s Network. We are raising the bar of privacy for our users and for the sector, and we hope that others will follow us ”.

According to Apple, the ‘Tracker Detect’ app “requires users to actively search for a device before it is identified. If the AirTag is in “lost mode”, anyone with an NFC compatible device can touch it and receive instructions on how to return it to the owner . Lea company said that all communications are encrypted so that no one, including Apple itself, knows the location or identity of people or their devices. “
