The latest beta of iOS 14.3 and watchOS 7.2 introduces a new version of the Apple Watch ECG monitoring system algorithm.

According to the developer documentation for the beta versions of iOS 14.3 and watchOS 7.2 , Apple has designed a new algorithm that Apple Watch uses to measure electrocardiogram (ECG) waves.

In the official documentation a new entry “ version 2 algorithm “ has been added. No other information is included. The ECG feature includes irregular heart rhythm detection, which intermittently measures the user’s heart rate in the background and sends a notification if it detects an abnormality classified as atrial fibrillation, which can be a serious cardiac arrhythmia condition.

Based on the beta code discovered by MacRumors, it is likely that the new algorithm will allow the ECG app to check for atrial fibrillation (AFib) at higher heart rates, such as during exercise.

iOS 14.3 will introduce support for Apple Fitness +, the company’s fitness service that will work with the Apple Watch. watchOS 7.2, on the other hand, introduces a new Cardio Fitness feature that lets us know if our VO2Max levels are low. VO2Max is a useful measure of overall fitness and heart health.

iOS 14.3, watchOS 7.2, and Fitness + will be released on Monday, December 14th.
