Some of the iOS 8 features Apple introduced this week aren’t completely new smartphone or tablet features the company has come up with. Similar software abilities have existed on other platforms including Android, but also on iOS, thanks to apps that were not allowed in the App Store and found a second life on jailbroken devices, before Apple found a way to implement them according to its own standards.

Online publication, RedmondPie, listed 11 features that are already available on jailbroken iOS devices, and will become standard iOS features once iOS 8 launches.

The predictive keyboard and third-party keyboard support coming in iOS 8 have already been available via Cydia apps. Similarly, Apple’s quick reply feature for Messages is already found in many jailbreak apps, the publication reveals.

Other iOS 8 features including Siri’s always-on listening support, quick access to recent contacts, photo editing options, panorama mode on iPad, widgets support inside the Notification Center, Touch ID integration in other apps, renaming messaging threads inside iOS and Mac “continuity” SMS support have been previously available to iPhone and iPad users via Cydia.

A detailed look at these features that inspired some of the new functionality coming in iOS 8, complete with links to these Cydia apps, is available at the source link below
