A new report reveals that Samsung has started production of the 120Hz ProMotion displays for the iPhone 13 Pro and 13 Pro Max.

A new report from The Elec reveals that Samsung Display and LG Display have started production of the displays that will be used in the iPhone 13 and iPhone 13 Pro models.

The Pro models of the iPhone 2021 range will reportedly use  LTPO displays with ProMotion technology up to 120Hz . iPhone 13 and 13 mini, on the other hand, will continue to use OLED screens made by LG Display.

The Elec reports that Samsung and LG have started production of OLEDs for the next line of iPhones‌ ahead of schedule, at the behest of Apple. Due to last year’s global health crisis, the iPhone 12 range has suffered serious delays and the Cupertino company is trying to prevent this from happening again this year.

As we’ve explained in the past, Apple’s switch to LTPO, or low-temperature polycrystalline oxide, will allow the iPhone 13 Pro to offer refresh rates up to 120Hz without impacting battery life.

What does a high refresh rate display mean in real use? As we have seen on the iPad, it will have great advantages for the fluidity of animations on iOS. It will also help improve the gaming experience because a 120Hz display refreshes twice as fast as a 60Hz display or roughly every 8 milliseconds.
