The well-known analyst reveals that the AirPods 3 will not arrive before the third quarter of 2021.

According to well-known analyst Kuo, mass production of the AirPods 3 will begin in the third quarter of 2021.

If that turns out to be true, it would mean that third-generation AirPods will launch towards the end of the year. Previously, Kuo said the company’s new wireless earbuds would launch in the first half of 2021, which is March.

Kuo expects AirPods shipments from the first quarter of 2021 to the third quarter of 2021 to decrease by about 25% year-over-year to 55 million units . Should demand for ‌AirPods 3 be better than expected, fourth quarter ‌AirPods shipments will remain unchanged year-over-year at 23 million units. Overall AirPods shipments in 2021 are expected to drop to 78 million units, up from 90 million in 2020.

It is currently unclear whether ‌Apple will discontinue production of the AirPods‌ 2 with the arrival of the new model, as if the ‌AirPods‌ 2 remain on the market and are sold at a lower price, they could affect the demand for the ‌AirPods‌ 3, but if there is no such thing as a low-priced model, it could have a negative effect on total sales.

Finally, Kuo attributes the drop in AirPods shipments to increased competition and lost market share.
