Microsoft continues to support customers online, with members of the retail team working remotely and at Microsoft corporate offices.

Microsoft has announced  that it is permanently closing its physical stores worldwide.

The employees of the company’s stores will continue to serve customers through the company’s corporate offices and remotely, providing sales, training and support.

Microsoft will continue to operate its online store and also plans to ” reinvent the experience centers ” for customers in New York, London, Sydney and at its headquarters in Redmond, Washington.

“Our online sales have grown as our product portfolio has evolved into largely digital offerings and our talented team has proven successful in serving customers beyond any physical place,” said David Porter, corporate vice president of Microsoft. “We are grateful to our customers at the Microsoft Store and look forward to continuing to serve them online and with our retail team in our corporate locations.”

The company opened its first store in Scottsdale, Arizona in October 2009, eight years after the opening of the first Apple stores in Glendale, California and the Washington, DC area.
