The well-known analyst reveals that the USB-C port will arrive on the iPhone in 2023.
According to analyst Kuo, Apple will ditch its proprietary Lightning port and switch to the USB-C port on iPhone 15 models.
Since the iPhone 5, Apple has always used the Lightning port on the iPhone, despite much of the industry has switched to USB-C. In a tweet posted a few hours ago, Kuo said that the company’s supply chain partners have unofficially confirmed that Apple will integrate the USB-C port on the iPhone in 2023.
Thanks to this change, we will see significant improvements related to the transfer and charging speed on the iPhone.
Kuo previously said Apple would keep the Lightning port on the iPhone for several more years because switching to the USB-C port would be detrimental to the company’s MiFi business. On top of that, the USB-C port is less waterproof than the Lightning one.
One possible reason for Apple’s change of direction could be due to EU pressure on it. As we all know, the European Union is working to pass a new law that would oblige Apple to adopt the USB-C standard on all iPhones, iPads and AirPods sold in Europe.
This law, if passed, would require the company to ship specially designed models of its USB-C-equipped products to Europe.
