According to a recent Store Intelligence analysis, the average US user spent $ 58 in the App Store during 2017. Overall spending is, therefore, increasing compared to $ 47 spent in 2016.
More and more users are buying games, applications, and services within the App Store. Year after year, the average user invests more money to make the most of their iOS device. Turning from $ 47 spent on average in 2016 to $ 58 in 2017, the increase was about 23 %. Let us also remember that the possibilities of purchase within the App Store are actually multiple. Starting from the simple purchase of games or paid applications, up to microtransactions or the payment of monthly subscriptions for Apple Music or Spotify. In this analysis, purchases made within applications such as Amazon or Uber were not counted, but subscriptions to services such as Netflix or Tinder were taken into consideration.
Continuing with the analysis made by Store Intelligence, we found that more than half of the money spent inside the store is used to buy games. In particular, in the last year, 36 dollars out of 58 were paid for the purchase of games.
The category of applications that recorded a greater increase in revenues was “Lifestyle”. More precisely, there was a 110% increase, thanks to online dating services like Tinder, which doubled its revenues in 2017.
Finally, talking about the number of applications installed on average on each US active iPhone, here’s what we discovered. Each Apple smartphone has an average of 45 installed applications. Even here there was a slight increase of 10 $ compared to 2016. From the image below you will see in particular which applications are installed by users.
