According to Kuo, the advanced system for 3D front camera could also be used for innovative games , ensuring the user a greater “participation”. The combination of front and 3D camera sensor also could lead to the emergence of 3D selfies , to be exploited for example with augmented reality.
The hardware will use algorithms developed by PrimeSense, a company acquired by Apple in 2013. The sensor will be able to recognize the position and the depth of a framed object.
KGI also states that the 3D front camera of the iPhone 8 could be even more advanced by using an infrared transmitter and a receiver . The transmitter should use a technology developed by Lumentum, the front camera will be produced by Sony, while Foxconn / Sharp will handle the receiver.
