A new study reveals that iPhone 12 models equipped with MagSafe technology can interfere with various medical devices implanted in patients.

An article recently published by the Heart Rhythm Society shows that iPhone 12 can, unlike Apple claims, cause interference with medical devices implanted in patients, such as pacemakers and implantable cardioverter defibrillators (ICDs).

More specifically, the tests carried out by the experts showed that the new iPhones disabled the defibrillator function of an ICD simply by holding the device close to it, possibly due to the MagSafe magnetic system.

Of course, it’s not just iPhones or smartphones that create interference problems, anything that contains strong enough magnets can cause them.

As you’d expect, the short-term solution is to keep iPhones away from pacemakers and other similar medical devices.
