According to an analyst, iPhone demand will be driven by the iPhone 12 mini and iPhone 12 Pro Max during the holiday quarter.
In a note to investors, analyst Krish Sankar raised his iPhone production expectations for the December quarter.
The analyst says the Cupertino giant could produce 80 million iPhones during the fourth quarter of this year due to huge demand. Additionally, Sankar raised its expectations from 76 to 80 million iPhones produced in the December quarter, which would represent a 13% year-over-year increase.
Sankar says the two iPhone 12 models released in November – iPhone 12 mini and iPhone 12 Pro Max – will drive demand for Apple smartphones during the quarter. Overall, the iPhone 12 line will account for 82% of all iPhones sold during Q4.
Preliminary production forecasts for the first quarter of 2021 also increased to 47 million units , up from 42 million expected in October. This means that demand for the iPhone 12 will continue to be high even during the first months of 2021.
As for China, the analyst points out that monthly data from the China Academy of Information and Communications Technology indicates that iPhone 12 shipments have exceeded those recorded by the 2019 iPhone line.
