The iOS 14.5 beta 2 code refers to a “battery pack” in the optimized charging section. New MagSafe accessory coming?
The code in the latest iOS 14.5 beta suggests that Apple is working on a new accessory for the iPhone 12 that could take advantage of the MagSafe wireless charging protocol.
The new ” Mobile Charge Mode ” feature in the second beta of iOS 14.5 refers to a “battery pack”, with some believing it to be a clear reference to a new MagSafe accessory.
Discovered by MacRumors collaborator Steve Moser , the code string does not directly mention “MagSafe” and does not even name existing portable charging hardware as a Smart Battery Case. The wording indicates a charger with a MagSafe add-on as opposed to a traditional case, Moser suggests.
To improve charging efficiency and maximize available battery life, the battery will keep the phone charged at around 90%,” the text reads.
Third-party manufacturers have developed battery packs that magnetically attach to the phone, although they don’t charge the smartphone at 15W speed.
