Google Maps is evolving on Android and soon it will also evolve on iOS too. Google in a few hours will begin the rollout of the update as well as allowing you to download to your device area of the map, or even allow the turn-by-turn when we are  without internet connection .

In 60% of the world today, the Internet is not available, and also where you can access the web, it is said that the coverage is uniform. For most of the population it is therefore not yet possible, or at least not easy, to access information quickly and easily. It is a huge problem, especially when visiting unknown places. In this sense, Google Maps is making new strides with the goal of helping people find the information they need to reach their destination, even without internet connection .

From now on you can download a geographic area on your phone and, when there is no Internet coverage – whether you’re on a country road or in a parking garage – Google Maps will continue to operate without disruption. If in the past you could simply refer to an area of the map offline, now you can get step-by-step directions, look for specific destinations and find useful information on places of interest, such as opening hours, contact details or reviews .

To download an area, simply search for a city, a region or a nation, for example, and then click the “Download” on the tab, or go on “Areas offline” in the menu on Google Maps and press the “+ “. Once you have downloaded the map, when Google Maps will detect a limited or no connectivity, it will automatically switch to offline mode , and will return to online when the connection is restored, so as to ensure access to the full version of Maps, which includes the real-time traffic. By default, the application will download the maps on your device only when you are connected to a Wi-Fi network, so as to avoid high charges for data consumption.

These functions were presented in preview at  Google I / O in May and are currently issued gradually to Android users. As for owners of iPhone, iPad and iPod Touch, we will have to wait a bit ‘before receiving the Google maps in offline mode, but the novelty is really important and will mark a real turning point also when traveling abroad .
