According to a new report, Apple has requested a “large number” of foldable display samples from Samsung.

According to the leaker Ice Universe, who shared the information on  Weibo, Samsung will provide foldable display samples to Apple for a future foldable iPhone model.

The “large number” of foldable displays will be samples that will be used on some smartphones and Samsung will supply the units to Apple for a period of one year. During this time, Apple will be testing displays in a variety of designs for future smartphones.

Last year, it was reported that Samsung was shipping its foldable display technology to other companies, including Apple, in hopes of getting orders. The new leak could indicate that after testing initial samples, Apple is now testing foldable devices more extensively. Some sources have reported that a foldable iPhone could be launched as early as next year.

Samsung is a key supplier to Apple and regularly supplies OLED screens for iPhones. The company intends to dominate the foldable display market as a supplier and is considering increasing production to 10 million units per year to meet demand.

If the report turns out to be accurate, we could see the first foldable iPhone as early as 2021.

What do you think about it? Would you buy a foldable iPhone?
