Authorized repair shops will also receive a subsidy for each completed repair.

Last month, Apple and Google announced that they are integrating contact tracking features into their respective mobile operating systems.

For Apple, integrating this API has required the release of a firmware update (iOS 13.5), while Google today managed to make the function available on all Android smartphones .

Now both operating systems provide the basis for the operation of traceability applications through Exposure Notifications. Of course, to work, you always have to wait for the release of the official applications of each country. For Italy, as you know by now, it will be called Immuni and the release is expected within a couple of days.

In the meantime, news has come that Germany, Switzerland, Latvia and Estonia will also use applications based on the Apple-Google API.

What are exposure notifications?

Historically, contact traceability has required health officials to ask an infected person for a list of all the people they have been in contact with as a means of contacting them and encouraging them to test or self-isolate. Apple and Google want to provide a digital equivalent  to offer governments another tool to fight Coronavirus and help restart society safely.

When two people are at close range, their phones will exchange and register anonymous Bluetooth identifiers. If an individual is diagnosed with COVID-19, their device will transmit a list of everyone they have been in contact with in the cloud.

The other person’s device will periodically download a list of all those who have tested positive in their area. If a correspondence occurs, they will be notified and invited to contact the health authorities.

How does it work?

In terms of privacy, no GPS or other location data is recorded when anonymous and randomly generated identifiers are exchanged. Governments or the two companies are unaware of the places we frequented. Also, when people receive warnings that may have been exposed to COVID-19, they will not be informed of who reported it .

With today’s launch, users will need to download an app from a local health agency to get started ( Immuni in Italia as soon as it is available). You will then be asked to enable exposure notifications with the option to disable them at any time . The correspondence takes place entirely on the device, with Google and Apple planning to shut down the system on a regional basis once the emergency is over.

By the end of the year, the exposure notifications will enter the ” Phase 2 “, so it will no longer be necessary to install an app since the exposure notifications will be fully integrated on Android and iOS.
