Apple shared a new video on its YouTube channel showing the iPhone 12’s new Dolby Vision recording mode.
One of the key new camera-related features of the iPhone 12 line is support for Dolby Vision, a professional HDR video format that provides more accurate and realistic colors along with brighter highlights and darker shadows.
iPhone 12 is the first in the world to record video using this technology – up to 4K at 30 FPS on iPhone 12 models and up to 4K at 60 FPS on iPhone 12 Pro models . This is all possible thanks to a new image processor, which captures two exposures, creates a histogram and generates Dolby Vision metadata.
During the event, Apple showed a Dolby Vision video shot by Oscar-winning cinematographer Emmanuel Lubezki, and later posted it on his YouTube channel allowing us to take a more detailed look at the final result.
Dolby Vision support is available across the iPhone 12 line and supported in the Photos app or iMovie, and will arrive in Final Cut Pro X later this year. Dolby Vision takes advantage of the Super Retina XDR display for stunning contrast during video capture and playback, and users can share their videos with support for AirPlay up to 4K Dolby Vision to external devices.
