Nearly 12 years after the first release, Apple stops production of iPod Nano and iPod Shuffle

Apple has decided to permanently remove iPod Nano and iPod Shuffle devices that have made history but are now outdated and sold short of its virtual store and its official website.

In 2001 Steve Jobs presented the first iPod , a revolutionary device that sanctioned Apple’s rebirth as a successful technology company; A few years later, in 2005 , riding the wave of success, the two younger brothers iPod Nano and iPod Shuffle were released, aiming to offer a similar experience to their older brother, with some limitation, at a much lower price.

In 2007 with the first iPhone , which appeared as a device that included, among other things, the same iPod, the success of the latter was marked and destined to fall precipitously in subsequent years to this day, Which Apple has decided to end the production of the two smaller devices that are now considered to be too niche products.

Since 2005, iPod Nano and iPod Shuffle have received a total of 7 and 4 updates for the first in 2012  with a 16GB version sold at $ 149, and the second in 2010 with a 2GB to just  $ 49 .

iPod sales have been declining for several years now. After touching the  2.6 million units sold in the fourth quarter of 2014 , Apple grouped iPod sales under the “Other Products” category into revenue streams:

We are streamlining our iPod line with two models of iPod touch, now with dual capacity starting at $ 199 and we are about to suspend the production of iPod shuffle and iPod nano.

The end of the iPod seems to be very close, though, to give hope, the iPod touch still remains, which after an update in July of 2015 with an A8 chip and an 8 megapixel rear camera, continues to be sold at $ 119 And $ 299 for its 32GB and 128GB versions respectively .
