Apple today announced AirPods Pro, an exciting addition to AirPods family that has the active noise cancellation and a superior surround sound in a brand new lightweight design and in-ear. AirPods Pro is available for order on apple.com and on the Apple Store app starting today and in stores starting Wednesday, October 30th.
AirPods Pro joins the existing AirPods line in providing an unprecedented wireless audio experience. Each model uses advanced technology to reinvent the way people listen to music, make phone calls, enjoy TV shows and movies, play games and interact with Siri. The magical installation experience that customers love with today’s AirPods extends to AirPods Pro. Opening the charging case next to an iOS or iPadOS device and giving it a simple touch, AirPods Pro is immediately associated with all the devices connected to the iCloud account of a user, including iPhone, iPad, Mac, Apple Watch, Apple TV and iPod touch.

Completely new design
AirPods has revolutionized the wireless audio experience with an innovative design, and now AirPods Pro takes it even further with a new class of lightweight in-ear headphones designed for comfort and fit. Each earpiece comes with three different sizes of soft and flexible silicone earbuds that adapt to the contours of each individual ear, providing both a comfortable fit and a superior hold – a critical factor in providing an enveloping sound. To further maximize comfort, AirPods Pro uses an innovative venting system to equalize pressure, minimizing the common discomfort of other in-ear designs. AirPods Pro is resistant to sweat and water, making them perfect for active lifestyles.
Active noise cancellation
Active noise cancellation on AirPods Pro uses two microphones combined with advanced software to adapt continuously to each ear and headphone. This removes background noise to provide a uniquely customized noise cancellation experience that allows the user to focus on what they are listening to, whether it’s a favourite song or a phone conversation. The first microphone is facing outwards and detects the external sound to analyze the ambient noise. AirPods Pro, therefore, creates an equivalent anti-noise that cancels the background noise before it reaches the listener’s ear. A second microphone facing inwards listens towards the ear and AirPods Pro cancels the residual noise detected by the microphone. Noise cancellation continuously adapts the sound signal 200 times per second.
Engaging sound
AirPods Pro delivers superior sound quality with the adaptive EQ, which automatically tunes the low and mid frequencies of music to an individual’s ear shape, providing a rich and engaging listening experience. A high dynamic range custom amp produces pure, incredibly clear sound, extending battery life and powering a high-excursion, low-distortion custom speaker driver designed to optimize sound quality and remove background noise. The driver provides consistent, rich bass up to 20Hz and detailed mid- and high-frequency audio.
Transparency mode
Transparency mode gives users the ability to listen to music at the same time while listening to the environment around them, whether it is to listen to traffic while out for a run or an important train announcement during the daily journey. Using the pressure equalization vent system and advanced software that leaves the right amount of noise cancellation active, Transparency mode ensures that a user’s voice sounds natural while the audio continues to work perfectly.
Switching between Active Noise Cancellation and Transparency is easy and can be performed directly on AirPods Pro using a new innovative force sensor on the stem. The force sensor also simplifies playing, pausing or skipping tracks and answering or blocking calls. Users can also press the volume slider in the Control Center on the iPhone and iPad to check the settings or on the Apple Watch by tapping the AirPlay icon while playing music.
Performance and battery life
The size and performance of AirPods Pro are made possible by a revolutionary system-in-package design (SiP) with the H1 chip designed by Apple inside. The H1 features 10 audio cores and powers everything from sound to Siri. The H1’s extremely low audio processing latency enables real-time noise cancellation, delivers high-quality sound using adaptive technology and responds to ” Hey Siri ” hands-free calls, all at once.
AirPods Pro offers the same battery life as your AirPods with up to five hours of listening time. In the active noise cancelling mode, AirPods Pro offers up to four and a half hours of listening and up to three and a half hours of conversation on a single charge. Through additional refills with the wireless charging case, AirPods Pro offers over 24 hours of listening or over 18 hours of talk time. Charging is as simple as placing the AirPods case on a Qi-certified charging mat or using the Lightning port.
Additional features
- The ear adaptation test allows users to get the best audio experience from AirPods Pro by testing the quality of the seal and identifying the best ear size.
- After placing AirPods Pro in each ear, advanced algorithms work together with the microphones in each AirPod to measure the sound level in the ear and compare it to what comes from the speaker driver. In a few seconds, the algorithm detects if the ear is the right size and has good adhesion or needs to be adjusted to create a better seal.
- Siri with voice activation uses the H1 chip to enable “Hey Siri” hands-free to play a song, increase the volume, make a call or get directions.
- Audio sharing makes it easy to listen to the same song or movie with a friend by simply bringing a second pair of AirPods closer to an iPhone or iPad.
- Announce messages automatically and conveniently communicate incoming messages as soon as they arrive, and during a phone call or sharing multimedia content via audio sharing, Siri knows not to interrupt.

AirPods Pro is available for € 279 and can be ordered on apple.com and from the Apple Store app. Shipments will begin Wednesday, October 30 and AirPods Pro will be available in stores starting this week.
