Apple today announced the AirPods Max , innovative wireless headphones that pack the magic of AirPods into an over-ear design with high-fidelity audio.
The AirPods Max combine bespoke acoustic design, H1 chip and advanced software to power computational audio that delivers a revolutionary listening experience with adaptive equalizer, active noise cancellation, Transparency mode and spatial audio.
The AirPods Max come in five gorgeous colors : Space Gray, Silver, Sky Blue, Green, and Pink; can be ordered from today and will be available from Tuesday 15 December.

Custom acoustic design
From the top to the ear cushions, every component of the AirPods Max is meticulously crafted to deliver exceptional acoustic performance to every single user. The upper part covered with a breathable mesh that develops along the entire headband is designed to distribute weight and reduce pressure on the head. The stainless steel headband frame ensures strength, flexibility and comfort regardless of the shape or size of the garment. The telescopic arms of the headband can be extended and stay in place to perfectly fit each user.
The ear cushions are attached to the headband via a revolutionary mechanism that balances and distributes the pressure of the headphones and allows the individual ear cushions to be tilted and rotated independently to adapt to each user’s unique shape. The ear cushions use an acoustically engineered memory foam material to create an effective seal, which is essential to ensure an immersive listening experience.
The Digital Crown , inspired by that of the Apple Watch, offers precise volume control and the ability to play and pause audio, skip to the next track, answer or end phone calls and activate Siri.
Revolutionary listening experience
The AirPods Max have an Apple-designed 40mm dynamic driver that delivers rich, deep bass, accurate mid-range, and crisp, crystal-clear highs, allowing users to hear every single note. Thanks to a unique neodymium double ring magnet motor, the AirPods Max can maintain less than 1% total harmonic distortion across the entire audible range, even at maximum volume.
Featuring an Apple-designed H1 chip in each ear cushion, a bespoke acoustic design, and advanced software, the AirPods Max harnesses computational audio to ensure the highest-quality listening experience possible. Using each of the chips ‘ 10 audio cores, capable of performing 9 billion operations per second, computational audio makes possible a revolutionary listening experience that includes an adaptive equalizer, active noise cancellation, transparency mode, and spatial audio.
- Adaptive Equalizer: The AirPods Max uses an adaptive equalizer to adjust the sound based on the fit and tightness of the ear cushions by measuring the audio signal sent to the user and adjusting the mid-low frequencies in real-time. The result is a rich audio experience that captures every single detail.
- Active Noise Cancellation: AirPods Max delivers immersive sound thanks to Active Noise Cancellation, allowing users to focus solely on what they are hearing. Each ear cushion has three outward-facing microphones to detect ambient noises, while a microphone inside the ear cushion monitors the sound reaching the user’s ear. Thanks to computational audio, noise cancellation constantly adapts to wearability and movement in real-time.
- Transparency Mode: With AirPods Max, users can switch to Transparency mode to simultaneously listen to music and ambient noise, so that everything, including the user’s own voice, has a natural sound while the audio plays with absolute perfection. To switch between active noise cancellation and transparency mode, simply press the noise control button once.
- Spatial Audio: AirPods Max uses Spatial Audio with Dynamic Head Tracking to place sounds virtually anywhere in space to deliver an immersive, cinema-like experience for content recorded in 5.1, 7.1, and Dolby Atmos. With the gyroscope and accelerometer on the AirPods Max and iPhone or iPad, spatial audio monitors head and device movements compare data, then remaps the sound field so that it always stays anchored to the device, even when the user moves his head.

AirPods Max, like all other models in the AirPods family, offer an exceptional wireless audio experience, in any situation, for listening to music, making calls, watching movies and TV series, playing video games or interacting with Siri.
The almost magical setup experience of the AirPods and AirPods Pro is also re-proposed for the AirPods Max, which can be configured with a tap and automatically paired with all devices that are logged into the user’s iCloud account. including iPhone, iPad, iPod touch, Mac, Apple Watch, and Apple TV.
The AirPods Max automatically detects when the user is wearing them thanks to the optical and position sensors. They then start audio playback, which can be paused simply by removing the headphones or lifting an ear cushion. The AirPods Max offers excellent battery life with up to 20 hours of high fidelity audio, talk, or movie playback with active noise cancellation and spatial audio enabled.
Additionally, the over-ear headphones come with a soft, slim Smart Case that keeps them in ultra-low power mode to help conserve battery power when not in use.
