Apple hired a former senior Tesla designer, Andrew Kim. After two years of building vehicle designs for the company founded by Elon Musk, Kim will now focus on the much-talked-about project of the Cupertino colossus linked to the world of automobiles.
Andrew Kim was also a prominent figure at Microsoft, having worked on the HoloLens project. Last week, the designer shared a post on Instagram to celebrate his first day at Apple.
In the last two years, Apple’s attention has shifted from creating a real vehicle to the creation of an autonomous driving system. During an interview dating back to last year, CEO Tim Cook was very clear:
We are focused on autonomous systems, and obviously a goal of autonomous systems is a vehicle with autonomous driving. There are others, but we believe this to be the mother of all AI projects.
So why take on a prominent designer like Kim? Have Apple’s plans changed? At the moment it is not clear what the Californian company has in mind, but the last pawn (Kim) could be an indication not to be underestimated.
