According to Prosser, Apple has overcome the AirPower overheating problem that led Apple to cancel the project.
Through a new tweet , Jon Prosser shows an Apple Watch as it is loaded onto a ” C68 “, the code name of the AirPower .
The image is noteworthy because it suggests that Apple has solved the overheating problem for which the AirPower project was previously canceled.
Apple canceled AirPower in March 2019, noting that the mat failed to meet its high standards, without delving into the details. Thanks to the patents, we know that AirPower had several overlapping coils inside and leaker Sonny Dickson previously indicated that one of the main problems with the mat was overheating.
The company had encountered problems with Apple Watch because it uses “an optimized proprietary charging method ” that requires more energy and in previous prototypes charging together with other devices would have overheated the mat, literally causing combustion.
A few months ago, Prosser said that Apple has overcome the problem of overheating with its latest prototypes by reducing the number of coils and integrating an A11 chip capable of dynamically managing heat.
The leaker added that the mat could be released between the fourth quarter of 2020 and the first quarter of 2021 if the tests are successful.
