Devices on the list continue to receive hardware support from Apple Service Providers, including Apple Stores, based on inventory availability or as required by law.

The 12-inch MacBook , first introduced in 2015, has now been added to Apple’s vintage product list .

Vintage is defined as products that were discontinued more than five but less than seven years ago. Vintage Mac, iPhone, iPad, iPod, and Apple TV products continue to receive hardware support from Apple Service Providers, including Apple Stores, based on inventory availability or as required by law.

They define obsolete  products where it stopped selling more than seven years ago. Apple no longer offers hardware support for outdated products, without exception. Service providers cannot order replacement parts for obsolete products.

In the past, vintage products were no longer eligible for repairs at the Genius Bar or Apple Authorized Service Providers, but companies began offering extended repairs of select vintage products in 2018.

The 12-inch MacBook, also known as the “Retina MacBook”, is a smaller and lighter version of the MacBook Air and is equipped with an Intel Core M processor. It is the smallest Mac with a Retina display and also features a fanless design.

Apple continued to update the 12-inch MacBook in 2016 and 2017, but eventually discontinued it in 2019 in favor of the updated ‌MacBook Air‌ with Retina display as the two machines were quite similar.
