Android manufacturers have already begun researching to bring 3D smartphone sensors to their smartphones. In 2018, the TrueDepth system of Apple will probably be “copied” by several competing smartphones.
The TrueDepth system of the iPhone X has been very well received by both users and industry experts. According to many, Apple’s technology for Face ID implementation is much more advanced than any other system in competing devices. Android makers are then running up, trying to recover the lost ground in this area.
According to a report shared by DigiTimes, three of the major Chinese smartphone makers would be dealing with suppliers of these 3D sensors. We are talking about Huawei, Oppo and Xiaomi, who are already in touch with Qualcomm, Himax and Truly Optoelectronics.
In 2018 we will probably see many Android smartphones with a technology similar to that in the iPhone X. Many will, therefore, abandon fingerprints in favor of facial recognition through 3D sensors.
