iPhone sales growth accelerates in Apple’s second largest market, reaching 18%

Apple experienced a significant increase in smartphone shipments to China last month thanks in part to the popularity of the iPhone 11 , according to Bloomberg .

iPhone shipments to China grew 18.7% year-on-year in December with around 3.18 million units, according to Bloomberg’s calculations based on government data on overall shipments and Android devices. The increase marked an acceleration compared to the previous months, thanks above all to the release of the iPhone 11 in September. The data come from the China Academy of Information and Communication Technology.

The iPhone 11 and iPhone 11 Pro have made significant improvements in battery life and camera quality over previous models and have been well received by consumers and critics in China.

Achieving significant growth in China is particularly impressive at a time when the market as a whole is falling: total smartphone shipments in the country have fallen by more than 13% year-on-year.

Bloomberg suggests that Apple may find it difficult to maintain this growth as 5G devices become more popular, putting Cupertino at a disadvantage compared to local competition until it launches its first iPhone 5G in September.
