The next function that WhatsApp will draw from Telegram concerns the automatic deletion of messages or messages that self-destruct after a certain amount of time adjustable from the settings

After Dark Mode, a new function for WhatsApp is currently being tested which allows users to send temporal messages within individual chats.

The messages that are self-destructing at the moment are only being tested on Android, as was found in the latest beta 2.20.84.

Within the settings of each individual chat there is the Delete messages option through which the user can determine how long their messages last. The function does not seem to be the same as that of Telegram as it does not refer to the single message but to all the messages that the user sends in the conversation. The duration options are also different, we are not talking about a few seconds but about 1 hour, 1 day, 1 week, 1 month or 1 year.

We deduce that it seems to be a function more focused on not permanently leaving a message in the chronology of some other person, rather than the real “Secret Messages” that we know with Telegram.
