TikTok was the world’s most downloaded non-game app for July 2020 with over 65.2 million installs, which was a 21.4% increase from July 2019.

ccording to a new report from Sensor Tower , the 15-second video creation and sharing app ,  TikTok , remained the world’s most downloaded non-gaming app in July.

TikTok ranked as the # 1 app on both iOS and Android, with over 65.3 million downloads in the month. This represents a 21.4% increase over July last year. In the first quarter of 2020, the app recorded the best three months of any app ever in terms of downloads. Of the total installations last month, the United States accounted for 9.7%. Apart from downloads, however, Between Companies faced a difficult period in the country. In early July, Secretary of State Mike Pompeo said the US was trying to ban TikTok. Asked if people should download the app, Pompeo replied: ” Only if you want your private information to end up in the hands of the Chinese Communist Party .”

Despite rumors of a possible Microsoft acquisition, President Donald Trump continued to attack TikTok hard. The president has threatened to ban the app from the United States if its Beijing-based owner, ByteDance, doesn’t sell the app by September 15. In addition, the Trump administration signed an executive order two days ago to officially ban transactions with Chinese companies ByteDance and Tencent.

Interestingly, a separate report from the Sensor Tower suggests that TikTok alternatives are currently booming in the United States. Despite being the # 1 app for both June and July, the popular social media’s monthly installs have declined. Sensor Tower notes that:

“ByteDance’s competitors have benefited from the uncertainty about TikTok’s future and the largest emerging alternative video sharing apps are Triller, Zynn, Dubsmash, and Byte. These collectively saw nearly 1.5 million installations during the week of July 27 after the White House threatened to remove TikTok from US markets. This figure represents a 361% growth since the week of July 20, when those four apps had a total of 316,000 installs. ”
