According to some sources, Samsung may remove the accessories from the packaging of future smartphone models.
Immediately after the “Hi, Speed” event ended, Samsung mocked Apple for choosing to remove the accessories from the packaging of the new iPhone 12 models, posting a photo of its charger with the caption “included with your Galaxy”.
Apple has touted the environmental benefits of no longer including EarPods or a power supply with iPhone, noting that the move reduces carbon emissions and avoids the extraction and use of rare earth elements. As a result, the iPhone 12 models ship in a thinner box, with Apple claiming that it can hold 70% more iPhone boxes on a single pallet when shipping.
Now, according to some sources, the South Korean manufacturer is ready to remove both the charger and the headphones from the packaging of the Galaxy S21. Samsung hasn’t confirmed this move yet, but SamMobile says the company could only remove the headphones from the box.
Such a move would be beneficial to Samsung in ways similar to Apple. Not including the charger or headphones in the package would result in less electronic waste which would help the environment as well as reduce the overall cost of the product. Additionally, customers could also be encouraged to purchase headphones separately, such as the Galaxy Buds, further increasing revenue.
This isn’t the first time Samsung has taken a similar action. In 2016, for example, Apple removed the headphone jack on new iPhone models, and the South Korean giant promptly mocked the Cupertino company by running a commercial. A few years later, Samsung removed the headphone jack from its smartphones and quickly eliminated the spot.
