Inspired by the most extreme activities, Apple unveils a revolutionary new design with revolutionary capabilities.

Apple today announced the Apple Watch Ultra, which offers a new design and a wide range of features designed for endurance, exploration and adventure.

Apple Watch Ultra features a 49mm titanium case and flat sapphire front glass making it the largest and brightest Apple Watch display ever. A new customizable Action button gives you instant access to a wide range of useful features.

Apple Watch Ultra has the best battery life of any Apple Watch, reaching up to 36 hours during normal use. Plus, a new low-power mode, ideal for multi-day experiences, can extend battery life up to 60 hours.

The Wayfinder watch face is designed specifically for the larger Apple Watch Ultra display and includes a compass built into the watch face, with room for up to eight complications.

Apple Watch Ultra also offers three new bands: Trail Loop, Alpine Loop and Ocean Band, which offer unique design features that ensure a secure and comfortable fit for any adventure.

Apple Watch Ultra is available to order today, with availability beginning Friday, September 23.

“Inspired by explorers and athletes from around the world, we’ve created a whole new category of Apple Watch designed for new and extreme environments – it’s the most rugged and capable Apple Watch ever,” said Jeff Williams, Apple’s Chief Operating Officer. . “Apple Watch Ultra is a versatile tool that allows users to push their limits with adventure, endurance and exploration.”

Bigger, brighter and stronger
Crafted from aerospace-grade titanium, Apple Watch Ultra offers the perfect balance of weight, durability, and corrosion resistance. The case lifts to surround all edges of the flat sapphire front glass, protecting the Retina display, which reaches up to 2000 nits, 2x brighter than any other Apple Watch display.

The new High Contrast International Orange Action button is easily customizable for instant access to a variety of features including Workouts, Compass and more.

Apple Watch Ultra has three built-in microphones to dramatically improve sound quality in voice calls under any conditions. An adaptive beamforming algorithm uses microphones to capture voice while reducing ambient background sounds, resulting in remarkable clarity. In windy environments, Apple Watch Ultra uses advanced wind noise reduction algorithms, including machine learning, to provide clear, understandable audio for calls.

New straps designed for all situations

Designed specifically for endurance athletes and runners, the Trail Loop Band is the thinnest Apple Watch band ever created. The lightweight woven fabric is soft and flexible, allowing it to adapt to the optimal fit, and the comfortable tongue is designed for quick and easy adjustment.

With explorers in mind, the Alpine Loop strap features two integrated layers made with a continuous weaving process that eliminates the need for stitching. The upper loops, interspersed with a high-strength yarn, offer adjustability and a secure fit for the titanium G-hook closure.

The Ocean Band is designed specifically for extreme water sports and recreational diving with a titanium buckle and corresponding spring ring. Moulded from a flexible fluoroelastomer, it stretches and uses tubular geometry for a secure fit.

Endurance sports and elite athletes

Apple Watch Ultra is an incredible tool for endurance athletes or those who aspire to push their limits. For the first time ever in an Apple Watch, dual-frequency precision GPS integrates both L1 and the latest frequency, L5, as well as new positioning algorithms. Apple Watch Ultra offers the most accurate GPS of any other Apple Watch, providing users with the most accurate distance, pace and route data for training and competition.

Apple Watch Ultra is powered by watchOS 9, which includes new advanced running metrics to measure performance, such as stride length, ground contact time, vertical swing, and running power. New training views, such as segments, subdivisions, and elevation, provide important metrics at a glance, and thanks to the larger display, Apple Watch Ultra is the only Apple Watch that can show six metrics simultaneously.

Users can take their training to the next level with features like heart rate zones, custom workouts, pacers and, coming later this year, Race Route. For triathlon, duathlon or activity with any sequence of swimming, biking or running, the new multisport training includes automatic detection to easily switch between workouts.

Apple Watch Ultra has enough battery life for most users to complete a long-lasting triathlon.

The Action button can instantly start workouts and move users to the next interval of a custom workout or to the next stop of a multisport workout. It can also be used to mark segments, complementing the new track running experience, which automatically provides the ultimate pace and distance estimates for runners on a track.

Explorers

With the larger, brighter display and rugged design, Apple Watch Ultra is the perfect technical tool for adventurers and explorers in a wide range of environments, from every day to the extreme. The completely redesigned Compass app in watchOS 9 offers more in-depth information and three distinct views. The app features a new hybrid view that displays both an analog compass dial and a digital view at the same time.

Turning the Digital Crown reveals an additional view including latitude, longitude, altitude and inclination, as well as an orientation view showing compass waypoints and backtrack.

Compass Waypoints are a quick and convenient way to mark a location or point of interest directly in the app. Pressing the Action button or tapping the Compass Waypoint icon releases a waypoint which can be edited by tapping the icon that appears. The Compass Waypoint complication dynamically updates in real-time with both the direction of the waypoint and the approximate distance.

Backtrack uses GPS data to create a route that shows where the user has been, useful if you get lost or disoriented and need help retracing your steps.

With a single press of the Action button, users can quickly release a Compass Waypoint or start or view a Backtrack. An 86-decibel siren is designed for emergencies, when lost or injured, and can help draw attention to a place. The unique sonic signature incorporates two distinct alternating patterns, which can repeat for several hours. The first model suggests distress, while the second mimics the universally recognized SOS model.

Wrist temperature measurement is designed to help you explore the most extreme and remote places, from freezing mountains at -4 ° F (-20 ° C) to the scorching desert heat of 131 ° F (55 ° C).

Apple Watch Ultra is MIL-STD-810H relevant aspects certified, used for military equipment and popular with rugged equipment manufacturers. Tests include low pressure (altitude), high temperature, low temperature, thermal shock, fluid contamination, rain, humidity, immersion, sand and dust, freeze/thaw, ice / freezing rain, shock, vibration, and more. To optimize conditions in the evening, by turning the Digital Crown the interface turns red for better visibility in the dark when using the Wayfinder dial.

Water sports enthusiasts

Apple Watch Ultra is designed for water sports, including extreme activities like kitesurfing and wakeboarding, along with recreational diving up to 40 meters with the new Oceanic + app.

To support these underwater adventures, the Apple Watch Ultra is WR100 certified. Apple Watch Ultra is also certified to EN 13319, an internationally recognized standard for diving accessories, including depth gauges that recreational divers around the world rely on.

Using a new depth gauge, Apple Watch Ultra features a Depth app designed with an intuitive user interface. With a simple glance, the Depth app shows the time, current depth, water temperature, duration underwater and maximum depth reached. Users can program the Action button to immediately launch the Depth app.

In partnership with Huish Outdoors, known for providing innovative and reliable recreational diving equipment, the new Oceanic + app transforms the Apple Watch Ultra into a capable dive computer.

Available from the App Store by the end of autumn, the app runs the Bühlmann decompression algorithm and includes dive planning, easy-to-read dive metrics, visual and tactile alerts, no-stop time, ascent rate and directions for safety stops.

Oceanic + also offers a customized user profile, reports on current and local dive conditions and a dive log that can be shared with family and friends and automatically synced with iPhone.

“We are thrilled to partner with Apple to combine our world-renowned diving experience with the Apple Watch Ultra’s unique ability to turn the same everyday watch into an innovative dive computer,” said Mike Huish, CEO of Huish. Outdoors. “With Oceanic +, Apple Watch Ultra users can enjoy a new and enriched experience while diving.”

Additional features

Apple Watch Ultra includes all the connectivity, activity and health features that have made Apple Watch the best-selling smartwatch in the world: from heart rate monitoring and ECG and Blood Oxygen apps, to activity, safety and navigation rings.

Apple Watch Ultra introduces innovative new temperature sensing features that enable further insights into women’s health. The unique two-sensor design reduces distortion of the external environment and the body itself.

With iOS 16 and watchOS 9, Cycle Tracking users can now be notified if the recorded cycle history shows a possible deviation, which can be a symptom of suboptimal health conditions.

Using two new motion sensors and an advanced sensor fusion algorithm, Apple Watch is able to detect a serious car accident with Crash Detection. When Apple Watch detects a serious car accident, the device checks with you and calls emergency services if they don’t respond after a 10-second countdown. Rescuers will receive the location of the user’s device, which is also shared with emergency contacts.
