LG and Samsung will produce around 75 million OLED panels for the iPhone 12 series.

Yesterday it was reported that Samsung will produce approximately 80% of the OLED displays for the iPhone 12 series, and today through a new report,  The Elec  reports that  LG Display , Apple’s longtime supplier, will provide up to 20 million OLED panels. for the iPhone 12, while Samsung Display will produce 55 million units .

The report also states that LG will specifically manufacture the panels for the 6.1-inch iPhone 12 Max . The remaining displays are assumed to be manufactured by Samsung. With this move, Apple aims to diversify its supplier chain and put an end to Samsung’s monopoly on the production of OLED panels.

Apple is expected to launch four new base models this year: two base and two Pro, each in two different sizes:

  • 5.4-inch iPhone 12
  • iPhone 12 6.1-inch Max
  • iPhone 12 Pro 6.1-inch
  • 6.7-inch iPhone 12 Pro Max

All four models will be equipped with OLED screens , but the Pro models should still have a more sophisticated display . Made by Samsung and nicknamed Y-OCTA , they will eliminate a separate layer of touch sensors, making the display slightly thinner and clearer .

LG and Samsung will produce approximately 75 million OLED panels for the iPhone 1 2 series.

Technically, LG has already broken Samsung’s monopoly on OLED screens since Apple placed small-scale orders last year, but it is rumored that LG has so far only made displays for older models .

Apple has long wanted to reduce its dependence on Samsung for OLED panels but LG has reportedly struggled to meet quality and volume requirements . The new order suggests that the Cupertino giant is now satisfied with the supplier.
