According to data collected by a non-definitive version of iOS 14, it seems that Apple is using hardware similar to HTC Vive to test its AR / VR viewer.

In recent years, Apple has expressed a deep interest in augmented reality , also releasing dedicated tools such as the ARKit and RealityKit frameworks  , creative tools such as Reality Composer and Reality Converter and hardware such as the LiDAR scanner that we find new iPad Pro.

Multiple reports have indicated that Apple also plans to release an AR / VR headset by 2021 or 2022 and MacRumors has uncovered significant evidence of this project in the iOS 14 code.

MacRumors got a photo of what appears to be an AR / VR controller , with a design very similar to the HTC Vive controller, released in 2016. In 2017, Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman reported that Apple engineers were using HTC Vive hardware for internal testing purposes.

Given the basic design of the controller, we suspect it is for internal testing purposes only. The consumer-facing Apple controller is sure to have a different design.
