After the launch by Google in October of its Advanced Protection Program, some doubts have arisen. The system was in fact created to prevent account hacking, but the initial closure had cut out all third-party apps, including those native to iOS such as Mail, Contacts, and Calendar.
Six months later, Google has found a way to make everything more functional. In a new post, Dario Salice from Google has announced that the program now supports the native iOS apps, a necessary step to try to include many other non-Big G apps in the system. Using the program in the app as Mail, Contacts or Calendar requires a longer login process, but once completed, the apps will work normally. Salice has confirmed that in the future other apps will be included in the system.
The advanced security program protects personal Google accounts of professionals such as journalists, business leaders, and political candidates who are most likely to be at risk from targeted attacks.
One of the benefits of the program is the obligation on the part of users to use more secure login methods, such as that of the security token. But the system also limits the ways in which third-party apps can connect with users’ accounts, as even authorized apps may be compromised.
