Several developers, including Epic and Spotify, criticize the App Store fee change.

Several developers, including Spotify and Epic Games, have criticized Apple after the announcement of the new App Store Small Business program, thanks to which it will halve the App Store fees for companies earning up to $ 1 million a year.

The criticisms come from various developers, but, obviously, those moved by Spotify and Epic “make much more noise”. The two companies are not at all happy with the changes to the App Store fees and have made very heavy statements.

Per Epic Games CEO Tim Sweeney:

It would be something to celebrate if it weren’t a calculated move by Apple to split app creators and preserve their monopoly on stores and payments, once again breaking the promise to treat all developers equally.

By offering a 15% commission cut to select barons like Amazon, and now small developers as well, Apple hopes to remove enough critics to get away with blocking the competition and 30% tax on most in-app purchases. .

Sweeney went on to say that Apple is “rallying the community” with its special rules, and goes on to say that both iOS and Android “must be fully open to competition in stores and payments.”

Spotify released the following statement:

Apple’s anti-competitive behavior threatens all developers on iOS, and this latest move further demonstrates that their App Store policies are arbitrary and capricious. While we believe their fees are excessive and discriminatory, Apple’s linking of its payment system to the App Store and the communication restrictions it uses to punish developers for choosing not to use it puts apps like Spotify at a significant disadvantage over to the competition.

Ensuring that the market remains competitive is a key task. We hope that regulators ignore Apple’s “storefronts” and take urgent action to protect consumer choice, ensure fair competition and create a level playing field for all.
