The Fraunhofer Institute definitively abandoned support for the MP3 format. This has achieved the greatest success (also) thanks to products like the Apple iPod.

After so many years of honorable service, the MP3 format finally closed . At least according to those who created it. Precisely for this reason, the format will no longer be supported and / or fired. But fear not, you can still play the tracks stored on your PC / Mac.

The news comes directly from the Fraunhofer Institute for Integrated Circtuits , an organization that has played a key role in the development of the MP3 format. And it was the institution to recognize that times have changed: “Now there are better codecs, modern systems use the AAC, and will arrive on MPEG-H format. Systems that will bring more and better audio bitrate quality . ”

The MP3 format was created to transmit voice over telephone lines, but became known only later, thanks to the sharing of songs. They have undoubtedly contributed to his success as Winamp software (such as not remember …), and the Apple iPod, which revolutionized the way we listen to music on the move.

In short, advancing age for everyone, even for multimedia content formats.
