Apple has had advanced talks with Taiwanese screen manufacturers to use microLED displays in their Apple Watch next year, according to a new report.

Citing sources with Apple’s supply chain knowledge , Economic Daily News says the company will be ready to launch an Apple Watch with a microLED screen in 2020 , replacing the current use of LG Display’s OLED panels.

MicroLED panels use different light-emitting compounds than current OLED displays used in Apple Watch and should help make future devices thinner , brighter and with longer battery life.

A previous DigiTimes rumor suggested that Apple will work with Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company (TSMC) to develop MicroLED panels for Apple Watch that could start production this year.

However, Bloomberg has a slightly different timing for Apple’s adoption of MicroLED and believes they will not appear in the Apple Watch until next year, with a two to four year time span for the iPhone.
