When Apple announced the new ECG feature – the electrocardiogram for Apple Watch Series 4 – during the September event, the Californian company also said that the feature would be released “by the end of the year”. And maybe we are there.

According to some internal Apple documents obtained from MacRumors, in fact, will be the beta version of watchOS 5.1.2 to finally enable the long-awaited ECG function that, subsequently, will be released to all in public.

I remind you that Apple Watch Series 4 will be the first device compatible with the FDA-approved ECG that consumers can buy without a prescription. Industry professionals have assessed the release of the ECG App in advance and believe it will be able to save many lives.

Users will be able to take the measurement by holding the finger for thirty seconds on the digital crown.

An ECG measures the electrical activity of the heart over a period of time, detecting small electrical changes. This can help detect a variety of heart problems.

In the documents obtained from MacRumors are then listed a series of instructions that Apple employees will have to adopt when they explain the ECG functionality to customers.

Apple Store employees are asked to inform customers that the ECG app “is not intended to be a diagnostic device or replace traditional diagnostic methods” and “should not be used to monitor or track disease status or change medicines without first talking to a doctor “.

Where and when

The ECG app on the Apple Watch Series 4 will initially be made available in the United States even if users in other countries will be able to use the feature by changing the region settings.

To date, we do not yet have a date for the release of watchOS 5.1.2 but since the second beta of the software came out three weeks ago, the moment should not be that far.
