The Apple Watch is the protagonist of yet another story. Apple’s smartwatch saved the life of a young American boy.

The heart rate monitoring capabilities of the Apple Watch once again save a life. As 24 News reports, 25-year-old Zachary Zeis was informed by his watch that his resting heart rate was 210 beats per minute.

As the report explains, Zies, a recent graduate of Ohio State University, has been battling with Friedreich’s ataxia since middle school. Friedreich’s ataxia is a disorder consisting of a lack of muscle coordination that makes it difficult to perform voluntary movements.

After his smartwatch alerted him of the elevated heart rate, the young man requested an atrial ablation to correct the atrial flutter. After this procedure, Zeis’s heart rate returned to normal and the young man claims that his Apple Watch saved his life.

Apple Watch allows us to set a “High Heart Rate” notification threshold. When set, the watch will send a push notification when it detects a heart rate above that threshold during a 10-minute period of inactivity.

Here’s how to customize heart rate alerts on Apple Watch:

  • On our iPhone, we open the Watch app ;
  • We click on Beat ;
  • We touch High Frequency and set a BPM;
  • We touch Reduced frequency and set a BPM:
