For the first time in several years, Apple surpasses Samsung and becomes the world’s leading smartphone provider.

According to data published by Canalys, Apple has overtaken Samsung and has become the leading smartphone supplier in the world.

Specifically, the company shipped around 81.8 million units during the fourth quarter of 2020, while Samsung ranked second with 62 million units shipped, a 12% drop from the previous year. Complete the top 5 Xiaomi, Oppo and Vivo.

Worldwide smartphone shipments reached 359.6 million units in the quarter in question, a slight 2% decline year-on-year, according to Canalys.

Meanwhile, IDC estimates that Apple sold around 90.1 million iPhone during Q4 202, up 22% year-on-year. According to the research firm, this represents the highest quarterly shipment volume ever since it started tracking smartphone metrics.
