The company finally unveiled the first Apple Silicon Mac, a brand new MacBook Air with an M1 chip.
During the “One More Thing” event, Apple unveiled the new MacBook Air powered by the M1 chip .
The MacBook Air is Apple’s most popular Mac and the world’s best-selling 13-inch notebook. With the M1 chip, MacBook Air accelerates everything from editing family photos to exporting videos for the web.
The powerful 8-core CPU delivers up to 3.5 times faster performance than the previous generation. Thanks to the up to 8-core GPU , graphics are up to 5x faster, so immersive, graphics-intensive games run at significantly higher frame rates. ML workloads are up to 9x faster, so apps that use ML-based features like face recognition or object detection can do it in a fraction of the time.
The M1 chip storage controller and the latest flash technology deliver up to 2x faster SSD performance , so previewing large images or importing large files is faster than ever.
MacBook Air also offers this performance in a fanless design, which means that whatever operation we perform, it remains completely silent. And the new MacBook Air offers amazing battery life, with up to 15 hours of wireless web browsing and up to 18 hours of video playback – the longest battery life ever on a MacBook Air.
Other new MacBook Air features include Apple’s latest Image Signal Processor (ISP) in the M1 chip, which improves camera image quality with better noise reduction, greater dynamic range, and automatic white balance improved and face detection optimized for ML so that users have the best during video calls.
P3 wide color support results in an even more vibrant and realistic Retina display . Secure Enclave in M1, combined with Big Sur, offers best-in-class security with features like Touch ID, which makes it easy to unlock MacBook Air and make secure online purchases using Apple Pay at the touch of a finger. Additionally, Wi-Fi 6 offers faster wireless performance, while two Thunderbolt ports with USB 4 support enable connectivity to a wide range of peripherals.
The new 13-inch MacBook Pro has a starting price of € 1,159 . It is already possible to order the new machine on the Apple website , with the first shipments starting next week.
