According to a new report, the Cupertino giant is working on new versions of the HomePod equipped with touchscreens and cameras.
From Bloomberg comes two interesting news related to HomePods. First of all, in the Mini model recently released on the market, a “secret” sensor was found that can detect the temperature and humidity in the home. At the moment this sensor is not active but Apple could do it at any moment, with a simple software update.
The curiosities listed in the report than take another turn. Only a few days ago we published an article about an Apple product designed specifically for the home that incorporates all the functions of HomePod, a large screen for watching movies, and access to all other Apple services: from video calls. to home automation. According to Mark Gurman, Apple is actually developing “new speakers with integrated screen and cameras”.
Bloomberg says Apple is already working on new HomePod models with displays and cameras to compete with devices like Google’s Nest Hub Max, Amazon’s Echo Show, and Facebook’s Portal. However, Gurman points out that the launch will not be imminent , so over time the company could also abandon the project, as has already happened in the past with AirPower. It is something they are working on but there is no guarantee that it will actually be released for the moment.
Google’s Nest Hub Max, for example, features a 10-inch touchscreen display that can also be controlled with the Google Assistant. The device allows users to view daily information such as weather and calendar appointments, stream videos from Netflix and other sources with built-in Chromecast, play music through the stereo speaker system, make video calls using the 6.5-inch built-in camera Megapixels , check out smart home accessories and more.
Nest Hub Max also works as a “smart digital frame” for photo albums and can display a live video feed from Nest cameras and camera intercoms, making it very versatile.
A HomePod equipped with a screen and camera should presumably offer similar features such as support for FaceTime video calling and integration with HomeKit.
Earlier this month, Apple officially ditched the HomePod , focusing only on the Mini model. Perhaps the future of this product will change when “a big brother” arrives. According to Gurman, Apple does not yet have a “unifying strategy” for the smart home market and many, within the company, accuse the lack of progress of Siri compared to Google Assistant and Alexa.
