Great change coming to iOS. Starting with the next firmware version, the company will separate software updates from security updates in such a way as to allow us to keep an old version of iOS without having the smartphone vulnerable.

Yesterday the beta 4 of iOS 14.5 was released and this new version of the software continues to surprise for the large number of new features included in it. This is certainly a major update that will arrive by the end of this month to all users.

As noted by 9to5mac , in the iOS 14.5 beta 4 code references were found to a function that will allow you to always keep your iPhone safe. Basically there will be a division between security patches and software updates so that a user can leave an old version of iOS without giving up security patches, a bit like on macOS.

This novelty will allow Apple to fight any bugs or security problems more quickly and efficiently, perhaps even through automatic updates for those who accept the option. To give you a practical example, iOS 14.4.1 was released last week only to fix a security issue in the WebKit.

We may have significantly fewer software updates in the future thanks to separate “Security Updates”. This move, probably, will also declare the end of what remains of the Jailbreak.
