AirPods shipments are expected to reach 60 million units in 2019, doubling the estimates of the previous year following the strong demand for the new AirPods Pro.

Shipments of Apple’s AirPods are expected to double to 60 million in 2019 , according to Bloomberg . The strong growth is due in part to the ” much higher ” initial demand for the new AirPods Pro than Apple expected.

The € 279 AirPods Pro – offering noise cancellation and water resistance – exceeded expectations and demand is pushing Apple’s assembly partners against technical capabilities and constraints, said a person familiar with the issue. Many suppliers compete for the production of Pro headsets, although some are still developing technical expertise.

The AirPods were released for the first time in December 2016. Since then, they have been incredibly successful, with Apple regularly struggling to keep up with demand . Apple itself does not report sales of its wireless headsets. Instead, these revenues are grouped into the Wearables, Home and Accessories category, which reached $ 6.5 billion during Apple’s fiscal Q4 .

In 2019, Apple revised its AirPods range. In March, the company launched a new version with H1 chip , hands-free Siri and an optional wireless charging case. That version was followed by AirPods Pro in October, which offers noise cancellation , Transparency mode and more.

As explained in detail today, AirPods will have a dominant festive season as competitors like Google and Microsoft struggle to have their latest true wireless earphones on the market. That being said, Apple may have difficulty keeping up with holiday demand, especially with the new AirPods Pro.
