Speed cameras are now reported within the Apple Maps application in various European countries. Could the news soon involve Italy too?

Apple Maps has come a long way over the years but still remains “limited” compared to the amount of information we find in Google Maps.

However, it is important to know that the software is improving a lot and that speed cameras have been added a few days ago in Belgium, Holland, Austria, Sweden, New Zealand and Australia. Apple vehicles started collecting data in the Netherlands in June 2020.

The maps will now show speed cameras with a yellow icon of a camera with a flash on. The function had already been activated in the United States and the United Kingdom but the roll out in other countries also bodes well for Italy.

Recall that with iOS 14.5, Apple has already foreseen the addition of a function in Maps that will be similar to Waze, that is the possibility to report speed cameras, accidents and other unexpected road events directly from the app. This information will then be shared and shown with all other drivers who are using the application for the same journey.
