The new version of watchOS, currently available to public developers and beta testers, introduces the new unity dial watch Face.

Yesterday, Apple released watchOS 7.3 RC for developers and public beta testers. In addition to bringing notifications of ECG and irregular heart rhythm to more countries and walking workouts on Apple Fitness +, the update also features a new “Units” watch face.

watchOS 7.3 adds a new dial inspired by the colors of the Pan-African flag. Apple says the new watch face features shapes that “change throughout the day as you move, creating a unique watch face for each user.”

You can customize the watch face with three different color combinations:

  • Black and gray;
  • Red, black and green;
  • Red, black and yellow.

These are the colors of the Pan-African flag, and each has its own meaning, as Apple describes:

The red represents the blood that was shed for their liberation, the black represents the colored people, and the green is a symbol of Africa’s vibrant natural wealth, the Motherland.

The most interesting part of the new dial is that the shapes and colours will change slightly as we move, probably thanks to the accelerometer and gyroscope integrated into the Apple Watch.
