Apple is testing different methods to create a smaller notch for iPhone 2020 and is looking for a wider antenna to support 5G.
According to the leaker and concept artist Ben Geskin, Apple is testing several Face ID prototypes that would allow it to use a smaller notch in its iPhone 2020s.
Last month, Geskin said that Apple had prototyped at least one iPhone with a 6.7-inch display and no notch, placing TrueDepth sensors for Face ID in the frame above the display. The respected Apple Ming-Chi Kuo analyst has also previously reported that Apple intends to introduce a new form factor in the iPhone 2020, which could potentially include a thinner frame.
Ben Geskin now states that various Face ID models are considered, with prototypes that use new optics. Some are said to be smaller in width, while others are narrower to fit the sensors in the upper frame.
Furthermore, Geskin states that Apple is redesigning the antennas on its iPhone 2020 in order to support 5G. In particular, the prototypes are said to include ” wider antenna lines (> 1mm) for 5G “. These lines will be made of glass, ceramic or sapphire, says Geskin.

Finally, Geskin reports that Apple would like to eliminate the Lightning port and switch to a fully wireless charging solution, suggesting that the company has no plans to introduce USB-C on its iPhones, as some were hoping.
