Apple Champs-Élysées. This will be the name of the new Apple Store that will open on Sunday on the homonymous Parisian avenue. This is a very special store, created with the intent of paying tribute to the rich history and creativity of the city that hosts it, Paris.
Housed in a Haussmann era condominium, the inner courtyard has been transformed into Apple’s largest forum, dedicated to the free Today sessions.
Apple offers more than 18,000 Today sessions around the world each week, all focusing on creative passions such as photography, music, coding, and design. In the first week, the Apple Champs-Élysées store will host sessions with musicians, filmmakers, animators and much more.
This is the comment by Angela Ahrendts, Apple’s senior vice president of retail:
The energy in Paris is electric and will be one of our main cities for today’s sessions. I hope everyone who visits the Apple Champs-Élysées store will learn something new.
The result of a careful fusion of historical and modern architecture, the store’s design honors the building’s past by introducing modern spaces within it. The façade and the entrance have been meticulously restored and the burgundy stone of the exterior can be found throughout the building. The French oak parquet floors cover the upper floors, which aim to revive the original spirit of the building.
Apple Store Champs-Élysées, a tribute to Paris
These are the words of Jony Ive, Apple’s Chief Design Officer:
Working within a historic Parisian building is a great responsibility and a phenomenal opportunity. Our first priority was to honor the history of the building, updating it meticulously to create grandiose and intimate spaces. The carefully intertwined floors are warm and full of light, to celebrate the city’s timeless spirit.
Many of the design features also have an environmental purpose. A light filters through the sculptural roof that covers the courtyard, providing sunlight to space below and generating renewable energy with integrated photovoltaic panels. An integrated rainwater collection system provides water for bathrooms, trees and green walls.
Like all Apple facilities, even the Apple Champs-Élysées store is powered by 100% renewable energy.
More than 330 employees, including over 100 new hires, will welcome customers when the store opens on Sunday. The group represents 15 nationalities and speaks 17 languages, with over 200 employees joining from other Apple stores in Paris and around the world. As anticipated earlier, Apple Champs-Élysées will open next Sunday at 12:00.
